About Roof Decision Guide

An independent educational resource for Gulf Coast homeowners. Not a contractor website.

What This Site Is

Roof Decision Guide is a free, independent educational resource built specifically for homeowners along the Gulf Coast. Every guide, tool, and checklist on this site exists to help you understand what's happening with your roof and figure out what to do about it.

We cover the Florida Panhandle, Coastal Alabama, and South Mississippi. That regional focus matters. Roofing advice that doesn't account for hurricane codes, salt air corrosion, and Gulf Coast weather patterns isn't worth much if you live in Pensacola, Mobile, or Biloxi.

The information here is practical. If you can't read a page on this site and do something differently today, we haven't done our job. You won't find vague advice or marketing fluff here.

What This Site Is Not

This is not a contractor website. We don't have a sales team. We don't have "service areas" or "request a quote" buttons on every page. We're not trying to get you on the phone.

This is not a lead funnel. We don't collect your contact information and sell it to roofers. We don't require an email address to use our tools. When we suggest you talk to a professional, we mean it — not as a strategy to capture your information.

This is not a blog written by marketing interns recycling the same generic advice you've already seen on ten other websites. The content here is written by people who understand roofing and reviewed for accuracy.

Why We Built This

You shouldn't have to depend on a contractor to tell you what's wrong with your roof. That's a conflict of interest. The person diagnosing the problem shouldn't be the same person selling the solution — at least not without you having independent information first.

Most homeowners face a roofing decision with almost no background knowledge. They notice a leak or get a door-knock from a storm chaser, and suddenly they're making a five-figure decision based entirely on what a stranger tells them. That's a bad position to be in.

We built Roof Decision Guide to change that dynamic. When you understand the basics — what different problems look like, what repairs actually cost, how long your roof should last — you can have a real conversation with any contractor. You can ask better questions. You can spot red flags. You can make a decision you're actually confident about.

Partnership Disclosure

This site is produced by Nashville Business Foundry in partnership with Southern Roofing Systems, a licensed roofing contractor serving the Gulf Coast.

Southern Roofing Systems provides financial support that makes this site possible. In return, when our content recommends that a homeowner seek professional help, we may refer them to Southern Roofing Systems.

We believe in being upfront about this relationship because transparency is the whole point. If we weren't honest about who funds this site, nothing else we say would be worth trusting.

Editorial Independence

Southern Roofing Systems does not control the content on this site. They don't review articles before publication. They don't decide what topics we cover or what advice we give.

If our honest assessment of a roofing situation is that you don't need a contractor at all, that's what we'll tell you. If a repair makes more sense than a replacement, we'll say so — even though a replacement would be a bigger job for any contractor, including our partner.

The editorial team answers to homeowners, not to any roofing company. That's the only way this works.

Coverage Area

Every piece of content on this site is written for the Gulf Coast. Specifically:

  • Florida Panhandle — Pensacola, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, and surrounding areas
  • Coastal Alabama — Mobile, Daphne, Fairhope, Gulf Shores, and surrounding areas
  • South Mississippi — Biloxi, Gulfport, Ocean Springs, Hattiesburg, and surrounding areas

Regional specificity makes the advice better. Building codes, wind ratings, common materials, insurance rules, and weather patterns all vary by location. A roofing guide that tries to apply everywhere ends up being useful nowhere.
